FAQ

What owners ask before they hire us

The basics

What is a fractional CFO and COO?

A senior finance and operations leader who works with your business part‑time, for a flat monthly fee. You get the experience of a CFO and COO without the cost of a full‑time hire. We build reliable numbers and a steady operating rhythm, then stay alongside you for the decisions.

How is that different from my bookkeeper or my tax CPA?

Your bookkeeper records what happened. Your tax CPA files your returns and plans your taxes. We use those numbers to look ahead: cash over the next 12 weeks, which work is profitable, what you can afford, and what your team needs to do next. We work with both of them, not instead of them.

Why one person for both finance and operations?

Because the problems are connected. A cash crunch often traces back to a process, like slow invoicing. A missed target often traces back to unclear roles. An advisor who sees the numbers and how work gets done can fix the cause as well as report the symptom.

Is my business big enough?

We usually work with owner‑led businesses that are growing and have outgrown “the owner does the books at night.” That often means a few million dollars in revenue and up, but complexity matters more than size. If you’re making decisions without numbers you trust, it’s probably time to talk.

Is Marcie a CPA?

Yes, since 1989. Wescot Advisors provides fractional CFO and COO advisory services. We don’t perform audits, reviews or compilations, and we don’t prepare tax returns.

Cost and commitment

What does it cost?

The Clarity Assessment is a fixed fee. Monthly partnerships are a flat monthly fee, agreed up front, based on the size of your business and how much support you want. You won’t be billed by the hour or surprised by an invoice. You’ll have a firm number after the assessment.

How long do I have to commit?

The first 90 days are an initial term, because that’s when we build the foundation. After that it’s month to month, with 30 days’ notice.

How much of your time will I get?

It depends on your level: monthly, every two weeks or weekly meetings, plus calls and email between meetings for the decisions that can’t wait. We keep a small number of clients so each one gets real attention.

What’s included

Do you do our bookkeeping?

No. We oversee your bookkeeper, set up the close process and review the work each month. If you don’t have a bookkeeper you trust, we’ll help you hire one or introduce you to a firm we work with.

Do you prepare our taxes?

No. We work alongside your tax CPA so year end goes smoothly and tax planning fits the rest of your plan.

Can you audit or review our financial statements for the bank?

No, and that’s deliberate. Because we work inside your business as your advisor, we’re not independent of it, so we don’t do audits or reviews. We prepare a clean, management-prepared package for your banker. If your lender requires reviewed or audited statements, we’ll help you get ready and work with the independent CPA firm that does them.

Do we have to switch accounting software?

Usually not. Marcie is a QuickBooks ProAdvisor, and most owners’ needs can be met with QuickBooks Online set up properly. If something else would serve you better, we’ll tell you why and what it would cost before you change anything.

Working together

What happens in the first 90 days?

In the first month we set up access and build your 12‑Week Cash Flow View and KPI list. In the second, you get your first full monthly review, and we start the scorecard and meeting rhythm if your level includes them. By day 90 you have a budget or forecast, at least one operations fix in place, and a review with us of what’s working.

Do you work on‑site or remotely?

Both. Most of the monthly work happens remotely, with meetings by video. We come on‑site when it helps, like a kickoff, a planning session, or a meeting with your team, banker or contractors.

How do you keep our information confidential?

As a CPA, Marcie is bound by professional confidentiality rules. Your documents and reports are shared through a secure client portal that only your people can sign in to, instead of email attachments. We never share your information or name you as a client without your written permission.

How will we know it’s working?

You’ll see it in the things we agree on at the start: financials on time every month, a cash view you actually use, a scorecard your team keeps up, and action items that get done. We review the engagement with you every quarter. If it isn’t worth what you’re paying, we’ll say so first.

What’s the difference between the self‑check and the Clarity Assessment?

The self‑check is free, takes about two minutes, and gives you your own read on the ten questions. The Clarity Assessment is a paid, two- to three‑week review in which Marcie works through your actual books and operations, then hands you a 90‑day roadmap.
